Fireworks were great - excellent work by all involved.

your are right about the forums, I always enjoyed reading them, I don't check this site as much anymore....

Parental controls is exactly it! I think we'd all have a different opinion of throw vs hand but ultimately its the parents job to keep track of their kids! Just my thoughts! Sorry, I'm sure this is why we don't have the forms anymore :P

When I was a young child I had a friend try to jump on a float, Why?? I don't know, he fell off of it & underneath the wheel of the transport truck, enough said.....my kids don't leave my sight at any parades, etc
cavshockey on Sunday 09 August 2009 - 14:38:27
Give crappy candy to the kids on the road and save the good stuff for those following the rules. Or maybe throw it AT the kids on the road - make a contest out of it (hard candy too).
grandmanow on Sunday 09 August 2009 - 12:06:54
yes parents should be taking responsibility for their own children if the child had been hit or hurt by this they would sue in a second easily when it was their own irresponsibility to look after their own children and teach them right from wrong going out on the road to get a candy or two is definitely WRONG
jimkris on Sunday 09 August 2009 - 10:55:54
You mean you want parents to take responsibility for their kids?? Do they still do that?
cindylouwho on Sunday 09 August 2009 - 10:34:05
I was walking and handing out candy with the Girl Guide float, and I couldn't believe how many kids were standing in the middle of the street waiting for candy, with their parents sitting there smiling and thinking it was ok. These kids were almost 10, and I told them to get out of the road, they could almost reach out and touch my float. I told them to get back, stay on the side walk, and I didn't give them candy. They were not happy, but it was way too dangerous for them to be in the middle of the street for a few pieces of candy. This only happened a few times, but I was thinking if this keeps up, we soon won't even be allowed to hand out candy.
On another note: The support the Girl Guides has been receiving on the Carnival Grounds is AMAZING! Stop by for an Ice Cream or try y your hand at fishing in our Fish Pond! I've said it before, and I'll continue to keep saying it, Eastern Passage ROCKS!

I agree that candy should NOT be thrown out from the cars, floats, etc...accidents COULD happen...we had two SEASIDE-FM station members on both sides of the street, along the route giving out candy....the kids were polite, and seem to appreciate it.....but to throw it would be a mistake....if something happens...there could be a lawsuit...no one wants that to happen....
on another note...hats off to the carnival group for doing a great job....we at 105.9 SEASIDE-FM had a great time, being a part of the events and letting listeners know of the happenings...plans are already being talked about, how SEASIDE-FM can be more a part of this great community event!! Cheers!

There are no bubbles/bubble wrap big enough in the world to protect any kid from a car it is a lot safer when they pass it out by hand that way most children get some rather than one or two kids who are pushy and greedy who get it all or most of it i seen some older kids push the little one out of the way to get it one of them skinned a knee in the process and the parents had to take them home the parents of the kid who did the pushing said nothing to their child

hahahahahaha JD
jdstewart on Saturday 08 August 2009 - 19:41:18
I think throwing candy is fine. If people are worried that their precious little snowflake is going to get injured then they should surround them in bubble wrap and store them in the basement with the Christmas decorations.
barcar10 on Saturday 08 August 2009 - 15:04:30
I dunno, its an age old tradition that kids truly look forward to. I've attended many parades in my lifetime, none have ever involve injury due to candy other than kid fighting over who's is who's!
grandmanow on Saturday 08 August 2009 - 12:57:25
The parade was great the organizers did a great job the only thing wrong was the breaking of the rule NO THROWING OF CANDY FROM THE FLOATS which was followed by most of the floats til MJS holding and a&w and a few others it is dangerous to the children to be running out in the line of traffic to get it there should be people along the route making sure they don't do this and banning them from the parade the following year if they do saftey of the children should be the numer one concern

jimkris on Thursday 06 August 2009 - 20:11:43
I hope fireworks are refundable... seems like a risky venture to schedule fireworks in Eastern Passage. It's been foggy almost every night.
danicar on Thursday 06 August 2009 - 13:05:06
Some posts have been moved. I have contacted the users via PM to explain.

britbabe on Thursday 06 August 2009 - 07:30:26
Can anyone clarify if the fireworks will be on Sat or Sun as the 9th is Sun but the info on here says Sat, I did email them but it said might take 4 days to answer me.
britbabe on Thursday 06 August 2009 - 07:24:36
Yes they didnt update their own website though which is what most people were checking, unfortunately.
Buzz on Wednesday 05 August 2009 - 23:32:51
Hey folks, we at 105.9 SEASIDE-FM had to wait until we heard from Paul Irving, chairperson for the Carnival about the fireworks.....we HAD an idea they would be called off...BUT we had to wait until the offical word came to us, before going to air..which came in 5;55, Wednesday afternoon. NOW lets hope for Sunday, as the rain date for the fireworks....keep it tune to 105.9 SEASIDE-Fm for all your carnival updates!!
Cheers! Wayne Harrett 105.9SEASIDE-FM

Seaside FM announced it about 5:30 as I was also watching Cindy Day on CTV. That is the Passage station & the place to go for Passage news! 105.9 fm!
jimkris on Wednesday 05 August 2009 - 20:57:42
Seaside FM is across the street from Fisherman's Cove... I would assume they'd have the info on events.
britbabe on Wednesday 05 August 2009 - 20:43:47

brose on Wednesday 05 August 2009 - 19:44:27
Too bad we all couldn't grab an armload of wood and head to the shore and have an old fashioned community bonfire like we did back in NFLD.
